Choosing a professional LED controller.
How we prepare and verify this contentStart from the load: voltage, current, topology and channel count. Then verify thermal margin, wiring, protection, physical inputs, offline behavior, updates and integrations. Software features cannot compensate for an unsuitable electrical output.
Identify the LED load.
A 12–24 V constant-voltage controller targets compatible strips or luminaires, not lamps connected directly to mains and not constant-current loads without their own driver.

Size power and wiring.
Calculate per-channel and total current at the actual voltage, including concurrency and thermal margin. Supply, cable size, terminals, protection and dissipation must match the load, not merely the controller headline rating.
LUMA-6CH states six power channels, up to 180 W per channel and 500 W total: the total limit still applies when every individual channel is below its own maximum.
Define what must work offline.
- Physical controls available without a network.
- Configuration retained locally.
- Predictable state after restart.
- No mandatory account for routine operation.
- APIs and integrations with a documented security model.
Separate confirmed functions from roadmap.
Certification, protocols, compatible sensors and future updates must be labeled clearly. LUMA-6CH confirms KNX integration through KNXnet/IP; Bluetooth sensor compatibility is instead stated device by device.
