LUMA-6CH / Comparison

LUMA-6CH and professional LED controllers.

How we prepare and verify this content

There is no single best controller for every project. Shelly prioritises price and connectivity, Loxone and MDT their respective ecosystems, Casambi Bluetooth Mesh and DALCNET DALI or DMX control. LUMA is designed to combine multi-strip control, addressable outputs, per-channel measurement, browser configuration and open integrations in one device.

Choose the architecture first.

Do not begin with feature count. First establish the load, channels, building protocol, commissioning tools and infrastructure already installed. A native KNX project may favour MDT; a Loxone building can make the Dimmer Tree the natural choice; a Casambi network can favour the CBU-PWM4-LR. LUMA becomes more relevant when a project needs local browser control, mixed strip types and IP integrations without a mandatory proprietary ecosystem.

Indicative price€149 DEV KIT≈ €69≈ €145≈ €79≈ €253≈ €85

Comparison checked 20 August 2026. The LUMA price refers to the pre-certification development kit based on ELPM-S3LW; the commercial version's final price and specifications remain to be confirmed. Other prices are indicative averages in euros. NO* means the capability was not identified in the reviewed documentation, not that it is impossible in every configuration.

Where LUMA is genuinely different.

The difference is not one radio or another protocol. It is the combination of six PWM channels, two addressable LED ports, independent measurement, a local web interface, onboard scenes and effects, and secure-element-protected MQTT credentials. That combination can reduce the number of devices and tools needed in mixed projects.

Where a competitor may be the better choice.

  • Shelly when price, immediate availability and Ethernet are priorities.
  • MDT in an established KNX installation requiring ETS and native KNX TP.
  • Loxone when the project already uses Miniserver and Tree.
  • Casambi when the primary goal is a mature, certified Bluetooth Mesh network.
  • DALCNET when DALI or DMX-RDM are central requirements.

LUMA status.

The €149 development kit uses ELPM-S3LW and is intended for evaluation and development. The planned commercial version will use ESP32-S3-MINI-1 and nRF54L15. KNXnet/IP and application-level BLE sensor support remain planned until completed and validated; they should not be treated as currently available.
